A slower crossing than the new bridge, and a timetable nobody read.

What makes a ninety-year-old ferry feel like the fast way across?

Make an old ferry feel fast?

Dear Marrow & Vane, Since the bridge opened, weekday riders have fallen every quarter. People make the same choice each morning: the bridge is faster, so they drive. We print the timetable on every pier and nobody reads it. We have tried cheaper tickets and a coffee bar on the upper deck. Our boats are ninety years old and will not win a race. Yet the crossing itself takes eleven minutes, and the queue for the bridge often takes longer. Locals still call it the short way over, and for many of them the water is part of the commute. How do we sell a slower boat? The Operations Manager, Pellow Sound Ferries
